  Chapter 31 of the NC Administrative Code: The Administrative Code supplements the General Statutes for the North Carolina Marriage & Family Therapy Licensure Board. It outlines continuing education requirements, fees, and more.

  Although the military does not provide military training or award a military occupational specialty license in marriage and family therapy, if an applicant is a member of the military or military spouse, they may apply for licensure in accordance with NC Statutes. No later than 15 days following the receipt of a complete application for licensure the applicant shall be notified of the Board’s decision.

Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA)

The SCRA was amended in January 2023 by adding a new section called “Portability of Professional Licenses of Servicemembers and their Spouses”.  This will allow LMFTs from other US states to easily apply for licensure in NC due to relocation by military orders.  The applicant must satisfy five criteria which can be found on the FACT SHEET below..
